The training is the first in a series dedicated to increasing the research capacity of the UBB researchers for extreme weather events. It will consist of a short visit by CMCC climatologists and AI researchers to UBB to present the application of AI-driven detection and forecasting of heatwaves, aiming to improve the UBB researchers’ skills on this topic.
Topics
The main topics addressed during the training session will be:
Data availability for heat waves analysis for seasonal to decadal prediction and long-term projections
Heatwaves over Europe and their relationship with the large-scale in reanalysis and climate models
Climate models in the context of seasonal forecast systems
Numerical and AI-driven approaches for heatwave forecast at the seasonal time horizon
Practical exercises (hands-on) for the Romanian territory.
Detailed program
Detailed information about the daily program can be found here.
Target group
Junior and senior researchers in meteorology-climatology, environmental sciences and computer sciences at Babes-Bolyai University.
We aim at 10-15 participants.
Venue of the event
The event will be held face-to-face at the Faculty of Geography, 5-7 Clinicilor Street, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
