February 2026 - Training for compound events analysis
This is the third event of the series of training sessions dedicated to increasing the research capacity at UBB will be conducted by UAntwerpen and JLU and focuses on the training on the detection and characterisation of compound events. UBB researchers will be trained to study these complex events to improve understanding by uncovering key drivers together with their interaction and interdependence. The training will focus on specific types of compound events that impact socio-economic sectors such as human health and agriculture. The training encompasses both traditional dependence functions and AI techniques like generative adversarial networks (GANs) for modeling the joint probability of different events, enabling the quantification of compound events and their prediction. AI algorithms, enhanced statistical approaches, and imbalanced Random Forests for compound events will be used to train and share knowledge with the UBB researchers.
