Objectives and activities
Improving research excellence in extreme weather events
This objective will be achieved through two main types of activities.
First, the UBB team will be trained by highly performant partners (CMCC, UANTWERPEN, and JLU) for advanced analysis and forecast of heatwaves, drought, floods, compound events, AI tools for extreme events and science communication.
Then, the research activities will focus on proposing a new approach for early warnings of heat events in Romania. Based on advanced analysis of sociological data and of relative risk of morbidity and mortality induced by (dry and humid) heat events, as well as by using AI to integrate weather, sociological and health data, a new set of thresholds for heat warnings will be derived to enhance the National Early Warning System
Raising scientific reputation and international collaboration
This objective will be implemented through a series of activities coordinated at the consortium level consisting of participation in international conferences and workshops for presenting the scientific results developed jointly by the project partners’ team members following the training and research activities and publications of the most relevant scientific results derived from project research activities in international journals with impact factors.
Additionally, three summer schools for students and young researchers in Romania and other widening countries in Central and South-Eastern Europe dedicated to extreme weather events, AI tools for extreme weather events and forecasting and science communication on climate changes and extreme weather events will be organized, followed by a webinar on science communication on extreme weather events to raise awareness to a broader target audience on the topic of impact of climate changes and extreme events. The webinar will be organized to combine professional expertise and skills with the best available evidence from research activities.
Strengthening research management and administrative capacity
This objective consists of creating a new group at UBB to support the research management and administrative activities for Horizon Europe projects. Through collaborative efforts with partner organizations, the UBB team will undergo training through short visits and dedicated workshops. These engagements will serve as platforms to exchange best practices and capitalize on lessons learned across the partner network. The overarching objective is to improve the quality of project proposals in the submission phase and to optimize the implementation process for future Horizon Europe projects.
